The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel

Image
The Psychology of Money “The Psychology of Money” is considered to be one of the best money books to be published since “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. “The Psychology of Money” specifies the determinant of behavior as being far more conducive toward success than strict math. This book doesn’t contain formulae, nor does it give advice on the best stocks or whether crypto is worth it or not. Rather, this book identifies how people often approach the topic of money psychologically, and why our subconscious may either enable or prevent success. The book isn’t necessarily a listicle, but each chapter is a different ‘point’. These chapters explore ideas, such as why no one’s attitude toward money is crazy, why people are easily seduced by bad deals, and how wealth is truly less tangible than we assume. There are twenty total chapters, and each is distinct. No information is redundant, and the author was diligent to make judicious use of facts, figures, and narratives to present information. Inc...

The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko

The Millionaire Next Door Back in the dark ages (otherwise known as the 1990’s), I came across this book in my house. It was called "The Millionaire Next Door", and little did I know that this book would re-enter my life over 20 years later. I was a college student back then, and I must have been home for one of my breaks. I have no idea how this book ended up in our house, but I remember thumbing through it and thinking that it brought up some interesting points. The big takeaway point? That everyday millionaires didn’t look or act like the ones we saw in the movies or on TV. They were really frugal. They usually drove older cars and they weren’t into big, flashy houses. They looked, well, normal. In fact, I realized that I was already on the path to being a millionaire. The message was simple. Watch your spending and live below your means. Not really earth shattering news, but I appreciated the practicality of the information and enjoyed reading about normal people who achi...

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Image
THINK AND GROW RICH “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill opens with a significant statement: “Truly, ‘thoughts are things,’ and powerful things at that.” He highlights the importance of thoughts and their ability to shape one’s future. Hill claims that the book holds the key to earning riches and success. He encourages the reader to consider carefully what they actually desire and to make a commitment to obtaining it. Chapter 1: The Power of Thought Hill claims that thoughts have the ability to turn desires into reality. He presents the concept of autosuggestion, which includes programming the subconscious mind by repeating affirmations and visualizing one’s goals. The chapter emphasizes the necessity of having clear, defined goals and believing that one can attain them. Chapter 2: Desire: The Starting Point of All Achievement The desire to achieve a goal is the first step. Hill explains that desire functions as a fuel that motivates people to act. He encourages readers to have...

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

Image
A lot of people have read Robert Kiyosaki’s books (and he has a lot of them), but this is the one that started them all. I think what endears people to Rich Dad Poor Dad is the story. It seems to me that whenever a non-fiction book teaches with stories, it does very well. So, if you’re going to write a non-fiction book, weave your info into a story. Rich Dad Poor Dad is the story of Robert learning the habits of the rich from his best friend’s dad. Robert’s own dad was a highly paid, highly educated government official, but who ended up poor (this is his “poor dad”). His best friend’s dad was not highly educated, but he started lots of businesses, bought lots of real estate, and invested in stocks. He is “rich dad”. Key Lessons from “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki: Entrepreneu rship and Investment It emphasizes the importance of venture and capital. According to Kiyosaki, the problem with depending only a job as source of income is that it hinders financial freedom. He sugge...
